IMPREGNATED YARNS, ROVINGS, UD-TAPES |MATRIX SYSTEMS
REINFORCING FIBRES AND MATRIX SYSTEMS
It’s all about the combination! Various reinforcing fibres can be impregnated as staple fibre yarns and twists, filament yarns or rovings with different high-performance matrix systems.
Towpregs
Towpregs are pre-impregnated individual tows based on solvent-free hot-melt epoxy resins and reinforcing fibres. By combining different matrix systems and high-performance fibers, the physical and chemical properties of the towpregs and their processing behavior can be modified over a wide range and thus adapted to customer requirements in terms of performance, processability and product costs.
Application
Towpregs are the right material for the economical medium and large series production of composite components by means of filament winding, tape laying, braiding, etc. They are particularly suitable to produce H2 tanks, pressure vessels, dynamically loaded components (springs), shafts, axles, pipes and various sporting goods.
Prepregtapes
K-Tapes are pre-impregnated UD tapes based on solvent-free hot-melt epoxy resins and reinforcing fibers. By combining different matrix systems and high-performance fibers, the physical and chemical properties of the tapes as well as their processing behavior can be changed over a wide range and thus adapted to individual customer requirements in terms of performance, processability and product costs.
Application
K-Tapes are the right material for the economical medium and large series production of composite components by means of winding and tape laying. They are particularly suitable to produce leaf springs, skis and other dynamically loaded components.
Yarnpregs
Not only continuous fibers can be impregnated, but also staple fiber yarns, twists or combinations of staple fiber and multifilament yarns and rovings. We call them “Yarnpregs” after towpregs and prepreg tapes.
Application
A special application for yarnpregs is impregnating a multiple twist with a rubber-friendly finish. Here, a phenol solution is applied by a special operation and dried to a precisely defined residual moisture. The exhaust air is treated in an environmentally friendly way in a regenerative thermal oxidation.
