Developing and producing for our customers' ideas

 

Pieces of carbon fiber arranged in a scale – like structure on a thermoplastic matrix material can be formed into virtually any shape desired.

Versatile application options for preforms for the automotive market as well as for special components in the sport and medical sectors.

 

Individual carbon fiber pieces are fixed onto a thermoplastic base in a scale – like structure so that they are up to 50% overlapping. When the semi- finished textile is subsequently formed the individual pieces of fiber can shift in relation to each other in the heated forming tool, thereby adapting perfectly to the target contour. Even with complex geometries there is no undesired warping, shifting or buckling of individual fiber groups that is often seen with conventional surface structures. Spreading or compacting the roving parts means the new semi- finished textile can attain the desired surface weight- in just the same way as with classic meshes.

 

With CFRP components like fender structures, car bonnets, cladding or special components in the sport and medical sectors- where form and drapability are more important than pure aspects of mechanical rigidity- the new scale- like perform could provide a very interesting alternative.

 

Just like when using conventional semi – finished composites, with the new semi- finished product different layers can be arranged over each other at different angles in order to meet multi – axial load/wear requirements.
